We’re excited to announce the launch of a new childhood literacy initiative from United Way of Mesa County—the United Way Book Exchange! This program is part of our broader Youth Opportunity pillar, which focuses on ensuring that all young people in Mesa County have the tools, resources, and support they need to succeed in school, work, and life.
Early literacy is foundational to lifelong success, and we’re committed to increasing access to books for local children through this new community-based program. The Book Exchange will replace our former program, Mesa County Imagination Library, while continuing our mission to provide age-appropriate books to children across the valley.
Through partnerships with local nonprofits specializing in early childhood education and literacy, we’ll strategically place community book exchange boxes in high-need, high-traffic areas. Due to the generous donation from Wingate Elementary School, we have thousands of books ready for the program.
This take-a-book/leave-a-book model not only promotes reading but also teaches kids the importance of sharing and community engagement.
Here's how you can help:
We’re currently seeking sponsors to help us purchase book exchange boxes. Upon request we will email over a sponsorship sheet outlining the benefits of supporting this project. If your business would like to host one of the boxes, we’d love to consider it! If your location isn’t frequently visited by families or children, no problem—we’ll work with our partners to find a well-used space like a childcare center, school, or community hub. We will periodically restock the book boxes with children's books including a handful of Spanish-language books generously donated by Friends of the Library.
Together, we can help local children fall in love with reading and give them a stronger start in life.
If you're interested in sponsoring a box or want more information, please reply to this email or reach out directly to Kyra, our Community Impact & Outreach Manager, at kyra@uwmesacounty.org.
Thank you for investing in Mesa County’s youth. With your help, we can open a new chapter for children in our community,
